Story Healer-Caretaker of Words-Steward of Possibility

I discovered the magic of books…

When my first-grade teacher sandwiched my desk between hers and a bookshelf to help me focus and stop interrupting the class with my incessant talking. This pivotal moment changed the course of my life. I became an avid reader and writer.

After 12 years of deep diving into literature and filling notebooks with my thoughts instead of paying attention in class, I went to college. When I had to manage my time, energy, and space, I became overwhelmed and was diagnosed with an anxiety disorder.

I learned mindfulness techniques, and how to build habits, routines, and systems. But my frustration grew when every time I’d get something in place, I’d grow bored and stop using it.

There was no magic in the mundane.

It would be another 20 years before I discovered I had ADHD. That my mental hyperactivity, need to verbalize my thoughts, and love of planning, but failure to follow through, were not a lack of self-discipline.

During the in-between, I married, had two daughters, struggled to finish college, and was diagnosed with chronic migraines. My coping mechanism of writing was my constant. The worlds and characters in my head were as vivid as my real life, if not more sometimes.

After writing five books, I’ve found my voice as a writer of stories that heal the soul. My years of studying philosophy, religion, mythology, and history permeate my core belief that stories shape and heal our lives. I believe the greatest power lies in those who create the narratives that shift the winds of society.

We are magic makers.

And so a new adventure begins, as I enter midlife, to write stories that revive the magic healing power of words. I want to inspire readers like you to embrace the divine magic that dwells inside you. I want to teach you how to heal the wounds in your story and live a brave and authentically beautiful life, like the characters in my stories.

My Books

Surviving the Stillness. A snowy path between tall snow dusted pines with a pink and blue clouded sky.

At fifteen, Abigail Morgan has learned doing what is right always comes at a cost. Still, she is determined to keep her promise to God to take care of her brother Samuel. But when God derails her plan of heading west to start over in Portland, she’s forced to trust the charity of the sisters of St. Catherine’s Orphanage for the winter. Abigail quickly learns there are no secrets among orphans. But Abigail has secrets she will go to great lengths to keep anyone from knowing, especially Samuel.

After his ma’s death, Matthew Mason found healing in becoming a healer like her. Between assisting his pa and the education provided by the sisters of St. Catherine’s, he is on track to become the second doctor Bear Valley desperately needs. But as much as Matthew wants to become a doctor, he would trade it all for a closer relationship with his pa.

When a simple misstep sends Matthew’s certain future colliding with Abigail’s uncertain one, God teaches them to stop running, be still, and trust that He is the true healer of our wounds.

Bound by Brokenness. Light breaks forth from a blue sky over pines along a river. Distant mountains in the background.

Since his wife’s tragic death, Matthias Mason has served as the only doctor in Bear Valley. When he ventures out on his spring circuit through the foothills, it’s obvious Death is on the prowl. With lives on the line, Matthias battles to stay one step ahead. But when Death comes looking for him, will Matthias face his own brokenness and allow God to heal the wounds festering in his heart?

While his sister is out on the circuit, assisting Doc, twelve-year-old Samuel Morgan sets out to prove he can be trusted to do what’s right and that his penchant for stories is more than a pastime. When his best friend’s brother returns to Bear Valley, married to a city girl, and buys back the old family homestead, things don’t add up. Sam knows where there’s a secret, there’s a story. But he’s not prepared for how his well-intentioned decision to find the truth will affect everyone in Bear Valley.

In the continuation of this family saga, God shows Matthias and Samuel that healing begins with brokenness and some wounds only He can bind.

In All Things Charity by Paula Peckham     A bell. A whirlwind kiss. A storm.

Joyful bells turn to warning sirens when his biggest regret walks into the party, casting a dark cloud over their budding romance. Is their love strong enough to withstand the truth?
